We are a local charity based in Middlesbrough, and cover the local authority areas of Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton on Tees. Established in September 1960, we aim to improve the independence and quality of life of blind and partially sighted people living within our boundary areas.
Our Social Centre is open from 10am to 2pm Tuesday to Friday.
We transport people from their homes to and from our Centre by our two minibuses. Our resident cook prepares a fresh two-course meal each day for the users of our centre.
The Activity Organiser prepares and delivers a varied range of activities each day and organises outside entertainers to come and sing or perform on a regular basis. A full year‘s activities and events for the blind are published in January of each year for centre users. We also arrange to take clients on outings at least once a month, catering for a wide variety of interests.
For those who cannot attend the centre, we run a Home Visiting and Befriending Service which involves a weekly visit from a volunteer.
Our Transcription Service for braille or audio is also popular among our clients.
Our social centre provides a place for the blind to socialise, eat and take part in many activities. Our volunteers visit people in their homes and also assist them with shopping and other tasks.
